Our History
Meridian was founded with a simple goal: to provide reliable, high-quality commercial flooring installation backed by integrity and hard work. What began as a small, family-run operation has grown into a respected commercial flooring contractor serving some of the region’s most recognized institutions.
Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of working with clients such as the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital, Wyoming County Hospital, Noyes Hospital, the U of R Laser Lab, Midtown Athletic Club, and many others. These long-standing relationships are built on trust, consistency, and our ability to meet the unique demands of complex commercial projects.
As the industry has evolved, Meridian has continued to grow—expanding our capabilities, refining our processes, and strengthening our team. Today, we support our clients through every phase of their project, from design and specification to final installation, while staying true to the values that shaped our company from the beginning.

Laurence Kemp
Years with Meridian: 22
Bio
Larry brings decades of hands-on construction and flooring experience to Meridian. His background spans multiple trades, including serving as a site superintendent and project manager with LeChase Construction, before ultimately specializing in commercial flooring.
After years working as an independent flooring installer, Larry partnered with Tony Noto to found Meridian Associates LLC in 2004. Together, they built the company’s reputation by servicing major institutional clients, including Strong Memorial Hospital and the University of Rochester.
Following Tony’s passing in 2012, Larry acquired the controlling interest in the company and led Meridian through its next phase of growth, overseeing all aspects of the business. As Chris began pursuing ownership, Larry played a key role in the transition, ensuring continuity, stability, and the preservation of Meridian’s core values.
Today, Larry remains actively involved, leveraging his deep field knowledge to manage long-standing client relationships and mentor Meridian’s in-house installation crews—passing on the craftsmanship and standards that have defined the company since its founding.
Fun Fact: Coached Christopher through high school baseball and is a Pastor/Elder at his church.
Hobbies: Working on his dream log home and property.
Christopher Kemp
President
Years with Meridian: 12
Bio
Chris grew up in the flooring business, working alongside his father, Larry, the founder of Meridian, from the moment he was big enough to hold a tool. From ripping out old carpet to hauling debris, Chris spent his summers, weekends, and school breaks learning the trade hands-on throughout high school and college.
That early, boots-on-the-ground experience gave him a deep understanding of flooring at the installation level and a lasting respect for the craftsmanship behind every project.
In 2020, Chris began the process of purchasing Meridian from his father, becoming the company’s President in 2022 and its 100% owner in 2024. Under his leadership, Meridian tripled in both size and revenue between 2020 and 2023. Today, Chris leads the company with a focus on operational excellence, strong partnerships, and building a business designed to serve clients—and employees—for the long term.
Fun Fact: Chris had two major heart surgeries before the age of 23.
Hobbies: Playing golf, chess, and doing endurance sports.
David Corvelli
Years with Meridian: 6
Bio
David developed his foundation in the trades early, growing up working alongside his father in residential hardwood and ceramic installations. That hands-on background shaped his appreciation for quality workmanship and attention to detail.
After building a successful career in management at both the store and regional levels, David brought his leadership experience to Meridian to learn the commercial flooring trade and play a key role in the company’s growth.
Today, David oversees day-to-day operations in the Rochester market, with a primary focus on developing Meridian’s in-house installation crews and ensuring every project is completed to the highest standards of quality and professionalism.
Fun Fact: David is the oldest of 9 children in his family.
Hobbies: Playing Chess
Josh Whitmire
Years with Meridian: 4
Bio
Josh holds a bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in project management from Liberty University. He began his career managing hotels, where he developed strong organizational, scheduling, and coordination skills.
Seeking to deepen his understanding of the construction process, Josh returned to Rochester to learn the installation side of commercial flooring—ensuring he could manage projects with a practical, field-informed perspective.
At Meridian, Josh oversees the administrative side of commercial projects, including material ordering, tracking, and coordination. His attention to detail and process-driven approach help ensure projects stay on schedule and are completed efficiently.
Fun Fact: Josh is a Carolina Panthers and Tar Heels Fan
Hobbies: Snowboarding in the Winter and playing golf in the Summer
Ken Johnston
Years with Meridian: 2
Bio
Ken has spent most of his life in the flooring industry, working alongside his father and gaining early, hands-on experience in the trade. While his background is rooted in residential flooring, he transitioned seamlessly into commercial work, bringing a strong understanding of both environments.
At Meridian, Ken works directly with end-user clients to manage their flooring replacement needs and leads commercial bidding efforts. His practical knowledge, responsiveness, and client-focused approach make him a key resource for both long-term partners and new project opportunities.
Fun Fact: Ken loves the Eagles, Go Birds!
